Enrique Chagoya: Borderlandia
February 20, 2008; 28 Minutes; Audio
Listen to the BAM/PFA podcasts for stimulating conversations about exhibitions and film series. In this second podcast installment, Chief Curator and Director of Programs and Collections Lucinda Barnes talks with artist Enrique Chagoya about his life and work on the occasion of the first major museum retrospective of his work, an exhibition entitled Enrique Chagoya: Borderlandia. Chagoya draws on the European canon, Mexican folk arts, and U.S. pop icons to create paintings, drawings, and prints that are politically charged, formally sophisticated, and often scathingly funny.
