Girl Crazy
Norman Taurog (USA,1943)

Based on the George and Ira Gershwin Broadway success, this Judy Garland-Mickey Rooney “vehicle” has all the hallmarks of a mid-forties MGM musical. It was credited to Norman Taurog but has Busby Berkeley as director of the elaborate “I Got Rhythm” number and Charles Walters as over-all dance supervisor. The production is by Arthur Freed and Roger Edens. Among the songs are “Embraceable You” and “But Not For Me.”

• Directed by Norman Taurog. Screenplay by Fred Finklehoffe, from the book of the Gershwin Broadway show by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan. Dance Supervisor: Charles Walters, one number by Busby Berkeley. With Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra, Rags Ragland. (1943, 99 mins, Print Courtesy of Films Inc.)
