Conference: The End of the Old Regime in the Iberian World
February 8, 2008 - February 9, 2008; 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Conference Room, Moses Hall, UC Berkeley
Specialists in history, literature, and the history of art come together in this two-day conference commemorating the two-hundredth anniversary of the Napoleonic invasion of Portugal and Spain, which sparked events leading to the end of those countries’ absolute monarchies and the breakup of their American empires. The conference draws on new research and the experience of senior scholars to rethink the significance of these developments for the cultural, social, and political life of the Iberian world on both sides of the Atlantic.
