Author Victor Martinez and artist Enrique Chagoya read, look, and converse in the galleries, exploring common themes and motivations across their respective media—the written word and visual art.

Victor Martinez won the National Book Award for Literature in 1997 for Parrot in the Oven, the engaging coming-of-age story of Manny Hernandez, a fourteen-year-old Mexican American growing up in Fresno, California. Martinez’s poems, short stories, and essays have appeared in such prestigious publications as Si, El Andar, The Bloomsbury Review, and the High Plains Literary Review. He lives in San Francisco.

Co-presented with students from the Communication Arts and Sciences program at Berkeley High School.

El escritor Víctor Martínez y el artista Enrique Chagoya leerán, analizarán y conversarán, al explorar temas y motivaciones en común dentro de sus respectivas disciplinas—la palabra escrita y el arte visual.

Víctor Martínez ha sido acreedor del National Book Award for Literature en 1997 por Parrot in the Oven: Mi vida, (El loro en el horno: mi vida), una atractiva narración del proceso de madurez de Manny Hernández, un joven de 14 años nacido y criado en Fresno, California de padres mexicanos. Los poemas, cuentos cortos y ensayos de Martínez han sido publicados en revistas prestigiosas como: , El Andar, The Bloomsbury Review y High Plains Literary Review. El autor vive en San Francisco.
